West Virginian operators of online casinos closed 2023 with a bang, setting a new year income record in the process. The total income from online casinos in WV was $157.2 million. A fantastic Q4 for casinos online in West Virginia propelled operators above the prestigious benchmark.

Operators in WV Set a New Revenue Record for Online Casinos

Income from online casinos was expected to reach about $150 million by 2023. Specifically, operators were expected to record $148.7 million through September. But because of a robust decline, online casinos exceeded the $150 million mark at the end of the year.

In the process, the state smashed two monthly records, which came in October and December. The monthly revenue totals for Q4 2023 are as follows:

  • September: $12.7 million;
  • October: $15.5 million;
  • November: $14.4 million;
  • December: $15.9 million.

Operators would have set a record for WV each year even if they hadn’t exceeded $150 million. Reaching the threshold, however, is undoubtedly a good accomplishment.

Operators that launched in the summer of 2020 have made some huge steps. The overall yearly income since is shown here:

  • $7 million in 2020;
  • $55.8 million in 2021;
  • $112.6 million in 2022;
  • $157.2 million in 2023.

The state’s platforms brought in an average of $13.1 million per month last year, up from $12.4 million on a monthly average through September.

Instead of organizing income by the operator, the West Virginia Lottery does it by licensee. Within the state, retail casinos have the option to collaborate with many operators. The income breakdown by the licensee is as follows:

  • The Greenbrier: $71 million (Golden Nugget WV, BetMGM WV, and FanDuel WV);
  • Hollywood Casino Charles Town: $60 million (DraftKings WV Casino, Fanatics, Hollywood, PointsBet, Barstool);
  • Mountaineer Casino: $23.6 million (Caesars WV Casino and BetRivers WV Casino);
  • Mardi Gras Casino: $2.7 million (Betly).
